Job Description in Media Planning:

A media planner acts as a mediator between the media organization and its clients. Basically a media planner helps the clients to purchase air time or space for the advertisement. He or she learn the market trends; analyze target audience and their psychology.
A media planner applies the knowledge of media & communication. One works with press, television, radio, internet and even for the promotion of brands one works on the sides of buses and taxis.
Actually a typical work activities of a media planner falls into two categories: i) preparation & ii) implementation. Preparation part includes, working with the clients, understanding their business objectives and strategies; making decisions for specific clients and campaigns; thinking creative ways to represent clients; researching and analyzing data. And the implementation part covers: working with media buyers (either in house or specialist agencies); maintaining good contacts with different media owners; managing client relationships; maintaining records; developing evaluation techniques for campaigns.

With the emergence of numerous advertisement agencies in the market, the job opportunities are increasing at high rate for the talented professionals. As the industry has several areas of specializations, hence one can work with any of them according one’s preference and specialization.

Skills & Eligibility require in Media Planning job:

The qualification becomes secondary when creative mind plays the major role. Interested candidate having a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or Diploma in Mass Communication or Advertisement can easily start this career. Today, institutes are offering Management courses on Media and Media Science. Some organizations prefer to hire candidates with MBA in Media Planning.
A media planner must be good at communication to use effectively thoughts to their clients. To become a successful in this industry one has to be constantly updated with the changing trends. And one should be enthusiastic, pro-active, good observer, passionate, quick decision maker to handle difficult circumstances.

Remunerations in Media Planning:

Annually at the entry level a Media Planner earns around $30,000 to $ 35,000. With experience over 8 – 10 years one may expect to earn more than $ 55,000 yearly.
